We began this paper with the claim that enterprises are historical communities created to take care of the concerns of people in surrounding communities. To successfully compete and take care of concerns, the enterprise must attract, invest and produce different kinds of capital resources. It is a mistake to think of capital only in terms of money. A successful enterprise needs to accumulate financial capital, the kind of human capital that allows a company to develop strategic advantages over competitors, and the kind of reputation in the marketplace that makes them an attractive investment opportunity, business partner and producer.
Enterprises accumulate capital when they recurrently produce satisfied customers and satisfied investors. They do so by effectively coordinating commitment, materiel and information processes, within exchange conversations that produce value. Those topics have been the subjects of this paper.
